Special Containment Procedures: SCP-8000 is to be contained within a 5m x 5m x 5m steel-reinforced chamber suspended in mid-air. This chamber is to be built with observation windows made from reinforced stained glass, depicting various scenes from classic fantasy literature. The chamber must be equipped with a dimensional anchor generator to prevent SCP-8000 from escaping to alternate dimensions.
Access to SCP-8000's containment chamber is restricted to Level 3 personnel and above. Any personnel of lower clearance who directly view SCP-8000 are to be debriefed and given Class-B amnestics.
Description: SCP-8000 appears as a mystical, sentient grimoire, measuring approximately 30cm x 20cm x 10cm. Its exterior is bound in aged leather, adorned with intricate gold filigree and gemstone inlays. However, analysis has determined the material to be unknown and resistant to any form of damage or decay. The writing within SCP-8000 is in an ancient language believed to be a form of proto-Elvish or High Fey.
When opened, SCP-8000 reveals an endless series of elaborate, hand-illustrated pages depicting fantastical creatures, landscapes, and scenes from various mythical realms. These illustrations animate and come to life within the grimoire, creating an immersive and interactive experience for viewers. SCP-8000 appears to change its contents and themes based on the viewer's personal fantasies or desires. However, prolonged exposure to SCP-8000 has shown deleterious effects on human subjects.
Subjects who spend more than 30 minutes viewing SCP-8000 experience a gradual suspension of disbelief, wherein they begin to perceive the contents of the grimoire as genuine reality. These individuals become convinced that they have been transported to the depicted realms, and their physical bodies start changing to resemble a fantasy creature or character. They may gain or lose abilities associated with their chosen persona, such as magical powers or increased strength.
The longer individuals remain under the influence of SCP-8000, the more detached they become from reality. They develop an obsession with the fantasy realm depicted within the grimoire and exhibit signs of mental instability, often exhibiting traits of schizophrenia or dissociative identity disorder. Prolonged exposure can cause irreversible damage to the human psyche, leading to a complete loss of identity and self, resulting in a state of perpetual delusion.
Addendum 8000-A: According to recovered historical records, SCP-8000 was previously owned by a sorceress, known as Lady Seraphina Windsong, who resided in a hidden forest enclave. It is believed that Lady Windsong used SCP-8000 to create and trap beings from various fantasy realms, allowing her to control and exploit their powers.
The Foundation was able to acquire SCP-8000 during a raid on Lady Windsong's estate. She had apparently used it to transform herself into a creature known as the Archmage, bestowing herself with god-like abilities. Foundation agents were able to neutralize Lady Windsong and secure SCP-8000, averting further chaos and destruction.
Research is being conducted to find a way to reverse SCP-8000's effects on affected individuals and to understand the true nature of its power. Until then, all instances of SCP-8000 must be contained and isolated to avoid further contamination.
